He is a prolific composer and arranger whose work has featured on countless recordings and television and film productions.  In addition Eugene teaches trumpet, improvisation and composition at Monash University and the Victorian College of the Arts.

In 2003 Eugene was awarded 2nd place at the Wangarratta Jazz Awards, and was finalist in the prestigious Freedman Jazz Fellowship.  He also holds a Masters in performance and composition (Melbourne Uni.) for which he received a Melbourne Research Scholarship.

“Ball strikes sparks at every appearance, his rich urgent sound occasionally carrying flashes of the brilliance of the great Booker Little or the wicked humour of Lester Bowie.”
